Write Your Name Over a Star on the Walk of Fame

Let me say I was in LA to attend my HMI graduation last August, so I attempted to be smart and do as much of the LA-specific bucket list items as possible so La Brea is going to be coming up as well.

So it was on my last day in LA that I was trying to get get out of my airbnb early enough to go catch a movie at the Chinese Theater, but my host opted to try to find other things for me to do in LA because I do not think he liked the idea. This completely messed up my plans not that his suggestions weren’t great, but they were not my interests and were not on my bucket list. He talked so much (an hour) that by the time I got out of there there was no way to park in any of the parking lots near the theater. I was going to watch Blazing Saddles at the theater and then walk around up and down the walk of fame. But instead due to lack of parking, and it took me an hour to find a parking space anywhere, I parked several blocks away in one of the very few free parking spots. It was only for two hours. By the time I walked to the Walk of Fame, I had to practically turn around and walk back.

When I was there, I tried not to do anything bad like actually vandalize because there was more than enough vandalism that already took place there. There were not enough blank stars to do it to anyway! I did walk to see a few stars (Elvis and the Beatles) and then walked back home.

Who would you like to see on the walk of fame?

Zip-lining at night

So I went to Las Vegas in August and I went on the Rio’s Voodoo Zipline which is like 500 feet up.

I wasn’t really sure if I wanted to do this one or Slotzilla but the proximity to Gold Coast which was the sister hotel to Orleans where I was staying really sealed the deal. Given the lateness of the conference and the fact I was dependent on shuttle transportation and had to be so careful due to epilepsy an Las Vegas is a living nightmare for me. This way, I could walk only one hotel over and then not risk so much in the way of danger.

Going into the Rio was very confusing since the directions to the zipline showed a different direction than how you went, like the elevators that said 50-51 floors did not actually go to them. I had to have a hotel staff member show me the entrance and yet another place to be. Once I went to the check in and then was told to go to the retail shop, then back to check in them was sent to the elevator that only went to the top floors. It was a glass elevator and as much as I am terrified of them, I knew this was nothing in comparison to what I signed up for.

For whatever reason, there was almost no line which is very different from the reviews that said the lines were always long. By the time the elevator got me to the top I received a text saying it was my turn to ride. Well ok then! As luck would have it I went alone on a tandem ride and yes I was pretty secure to my seat although that really is not something that one is thinking about when one is the better part of 500 feet up. I was more concerned with what was above me then below me as in not wanting the cord to snap!

It didn’t though!

While the launch was a bit of a drop and was pretty freaky, I was able to watch the sunset in the distance from way up and watched some of the stars. I did cling to the chair though! It was over before I knew it and I was on my way back to the Orleans.

So Slotzilla or Rio? Which would you choose?

Hit your targets

If anyone knows anything about me, they know I have a slight groupon obsession.  I find a lot of the things I am doing on my bucket list because of the wonderfulness of groupon.

Since I knew what is on my bucketlist I of course look for them.  I kept searching for information about how to complete this goal but nothing safe would ever come up.  I could easily go to the range sure but I didn’t know the first thing about a gun!  So I had to wait to try to find a class.  My luck hit last month, and a course from Safe Zone Defenses came up for a basic pistol class.

It was a great class, unfortunately or fortunately I was the only student!  No one else showed but that meant I had personal attention.  The class covered a lot of material in a few hours, and we went out to the range which was very very loud.  I shot a little 22 caliber semi-auto.  At 15 feet, I had 100% hitting of the target (which means they were all killshots, 20% of them (or slightly more, hard to say since some went in the same holes) hit the very small bullseye.  I would be a little concerned.

It was interesting.  Still not sure I need a gun in my house though with my depression.

What about you?  Would you ever own or shoot something like that?

Become a life coach

When I was working on my business After Hours Hypnotherapy, my wonderful therapist kinda put the pressure on to do some life coaching but hypnosis based.  Many of the names he suggested were names of things that already existed although they were great ideas.  I went on Simbi to ask for help in naming it and while I ended up with some ok suggestions, its really not ready to be named yet so I named it hypnosis based coaching.

I then looked into life coaching and like hypnotherapy, it is an unregulated profession.  That seems sad but it is true.  People are paying thousands of dollars when something less expensive can do or even that another job can do as well.  As a mental health counselor and hypnotherapist, everything taught in life coaching is pretty much what they teach us in a proper hypnotherapy school and mental health counselors do as well.  So thus I chose to just take a course which was available online and on sale.

This is how I wrote it:

“Why settle for regular life coaching which only accesses the conscious mine, when you can use hypnosis to reprogram your subconscious mind for success in business, romance, and general life?

Hypnosis-based coaching method uses the relationship and bond with the subconscious mind where 88% of our beliefs about ourselves are stored.  Changing and removing self limiting beliefs in the subconscious mind are paramount to success.  Using solution focused hypnosis as well as the Kappasian Mental Bank approach, we create, enhance and reinforce positive habits, increase motivation, and create change in the client allowing the creation of a present-centered and future focused ways of being.”

I don’t know, I think it works…

Would you ever go to a life coach?

See a solar eclipse

So for those who may have missed the memo, the United States had an eclipse not that long ago who was a coast to coast eclipse. Now I knew of the eclipse years prior that it was going to happen and if you were paying any sort of attention to my bucket list you would have noticed the date was listed.

I had no idea it was going to be as far as it was nor did I know how near I was going to be to it. A few years ago I moved to Augusta which was going to get 99.5% but just past Aiken was supposed to get 100%. Not knowing exactly where in Aiken was going to get totality as the maps kept giving information that was not easy to put in the GPS, so I decided to go further to see if I could get something within the appropriate path. So I sized up a few options and went to SC State in Orangeburg which was participating in scientific research since they were in the path of totality.

I will say that the eclipse brought out some of the worst and scientifically ignorant people out there not to mention the rudest. Next time I am going to see if I can rent something in the path of totality because I will never deal with so many rude people again, and no they weren’t all southerners, no one around me was a southerner!

I will say that the eclipse was a beautiful experience so I would see it again, but not with so many rude people!

If you are from the US, where were you during the Great American Eclipse?

White Water Rafting

Anybody who has known me for a super long time probably knows the very first thing that was literally ever on my bucket list was to go whitewater rafting. My mother said she went with my father before I was in the picture and that she really enjoyed it. So I’ve wanted to go since I was young (maybe 8?) but my parents said I was too young as a lot will not take people younger than 12, when I became older, Mom made every excuse in the book not to take me.

She said going tubing in Helen, GA was the same thing. Um… no mom, it isn’t.

So for my entire adult life I kept an eye out for white water rafting. Most places around me didn’t do such a thing. When I was in a place that did, the spousal unit wouldn’t go and would not let me go. Then when I had very bad epilepsy, I wasn’t allowed to go. Then every time I actually looked like I was going to go, well it rained and things were cancelled because one doesn’t want o

So ended up never getting to go. Finally around the time of my birthday this year, I found a deal that Adventures Unlimited was offering. So I jumped on it. I didn’t realize it was 5 hours away. Hey if it says it’s a local deal I expect it to be within an hour or two!

Aug 7 2017 is when I booked for. I had to of course take off the entire day since it was far, I woke up at 4 am, was on the road by 4:30 am/5 am and went… of course it started to rain about 20 minutes from the destination. I was expecting them to cancel but it was rain or shine. Say what? Apparently lightning is rare up there. Well ok then.

It was nine of us. Me, a party of 2, and a party of 6. We were late leaving for our ride because one of the party of 6 was self entitled and thought it was ok to leave late from his place so he would arrive late. Luckily it wasn’t a huge problem, although it did tick off everyone who was not a part of the party of 6. We had to grab our life jackets, paddle, and helmets and went on two rafts.

I got the rookie leader (they have one person that has been around for a few years and team them up with someone who might be their first year being a leader) but I felt pretty safe. The rookie, Cole I think, had grown up in the area and knew the river well and he was about as small as I was which made me feel a little better about doing this. I know my size works against me more often than not. There were only three people in his raft and thank heavens the other two were somewhat experienced as I obviously was not. There weren’t a lot of people on the river for whatever reason, perhaps it was because it was a Monday and school was starting back in session in the area or not, who knows.

There were a ton of class 2-4 rapids which seemed about right for me. Obviously a 5 would have been bad for a newbie. I really liked the trip although it could have been longer and with more rapids. I really appreciate not being dumped in the water like they did with the other raft. That would have been much more dangerous for me than others. I can definitely be convinced to try that again.

What was the biggest rapid you’ve ever gone through?

Reiki 1

I really could not wait to study with my friend Art Kuhns of Breaking Day Hypnotherapy and Light Heart Reiki who happens also to be one of my main practice partners.  He had an interesting thought about whether or not a virtual attunement would be felt differently than a physical one.  Since we are both attending Hypnothoughts Live, even if the virtual attunement doesn’t take, I will get reattuned there anyway.

When I say I could not wait, that was the truth, I pretty much pestered Art into sending me the books which I read at a fairly fast pace.  The attunement itself just happened to have a lot of trance work in it which was very appreciated.

Would you ever try Reiki?

I’m a fully certified hypnotherapist!

Back in December, I graduated from HMI having completed 300 clock hours of course work. I previously posted the courses I took.

The next step was getting certified, I opted to only use the best and most strict certification. If you know me, you know that is exactly what I would do. It also happened that it was connected to the school which helped of course. Still 200 hours is a LOT of hours and there were times that I did not think I was ever going to finish.

However if there is one thing that I’ve learned from my hypnotherapist, it is to be resourceful. Always be resourceful. You have internal resources and there are external resources. Find one of them or more.

So as I was on Facebook, this one VERY annoying advertisement kept stalking me. I mean every single time I was on Facebook these two people (one asking for a haircut) kept popping up. Finally I said to myself, “Fine, I give up! Maybe I can get an hour or two of my clinical hours done.”

That site was Simbi and that helped me get another 80 hours, either directly or indirectly. I joined Simbi in Feb, end of March I turned in my paperwork. In exchange for hypnotherapy, I ended up getting so much of the things for the director’s award completed and my private practice launched! It was great. And yes as of today, I was notified that I do in fact get my director’s award from my school. Not only that but since I have always wanted to try to make hypnotherapy affordable to everyone, I now (via Simbi) can help get it to people who cannot afford it and I don’t have to set up my own system. Simbi can handle it instead. All I have to do is say it’s X points off Simbi and hand a card to tell them how to get on.

If I had a use “alt currency” on my bucket list, I would have gotten that crossed off.

Have you ever used alt currency or run on a barter service? How did you do it? Wanna check Simbi out?

Augusta film festival

And yet we did the Augusta Jewish Film Festival again for another year. This time I don’t think I saw as many movies as the first year, but I also don’t remember watching anything particularly good.  I am starting to think that some of these film festivals only seem to get the worst films.  Certainly I was not overly impressed.  I would do anything to have some decent films for once!

Would you ever willingly go back to a selection committee with questionable standards?

Selection Committee

This is a different selection committee, but yet again a film based one. I served on Southern Circuit’s film committee although I will say I did not find it nearly as good as the selection of films we have at the Jewish film festival. The quality was not there and it almost seemed that for several of them that they were not even trying to make a decent movie. Unlike the AJFF, Southern Circuit assigned the movies to the reviewers and gave us a much shorter amount of time to do our reviews. I had 4 movies and a week to do them in. That is a little bit much. I only saw one that was worth anything and I didn’t even think that was the best movie in the world. I expect when I see a movie, that people know their audience and know what the heck they are doing and are not trying to be overly cute. I was definitely not impressed by what I saw.

These guys by the way give the best swag.

Did anyone else see any movies worth while?
